Responsibilities
  • Accountable for product delivery commitments.
  • Ensure the quality of the product releases.
  • Set stakeholder expectations and communicate regularly; avoid surprises.
  • Develop strong relationships with other departments.  
  • Set goals with the engineering teams and ensure they have what they need to deliver on those goals. 
  • Ensure scope is clear and requirements are of sufficient quality to enable estimation and development.
  • Ensure that the engineering team composition and capacity satisfies our short and long-term needs.
  • Verify practices adhere to regulatory compliance and security standards
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the performance of the engineering organization.
  • Use the four key metrics to measure improvement progress and guide investigations for continuous improvement; Lead time to change, Deployment frequency, Mean time to restore (MTTR), Change failure rate.
  • Provide clear reporting on all relevant aspects of the engineering organisation.
  • Build a DevSecOps culture
  • Foster the culture to include respect, autonomy, purpose and mastery.

About You
  • Strong Engineering background with knowledge of modern engineering principles and best practices
  • Experience developing enterprise grade software products
  • Experience of working with a small department of less than 20 people and scaling that to over 100 people as the business grows
  • Experience of moving teams from an R&D mindset where new products are developed, to a production mindset where the products are used in critical enterprise operations 
  • Experience with delivering product roadmaps and working with a variety of estimation techniques
  • Experience of managing process improvements within and across teams
  • Proven ability to incorporate the management of risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies into the development lifecycle                                                                                                                                                                      
  • Experience applying quality assurance strategies to distributed systems 
  • Demonstrable success providing leadership to multi disciplinary teams 
  • Demonstrable experience of agile and lean practices
  • You are an excellent communicator, easily conveying ideas to teams and stakeholders. Ability to explain complex topics in simple language
  • Come from a system engineering and integration background

Bonus
  • Experience with Linked-Data technologies and graph databases
  • Experience developing distributed software systems that need to scale to handle large numbers of requests and large amounts of data
  • Experience developing software systems that handle personal data and significant privacy requirements

Additional Considerations
  • Sometimes we meet up! Expect some travel: once a year for our all-hands meetup and occasional team meetings throughout the year, usually in London.
